Remember the Ladies

In honor of International Women’s Day

An excerpt of a letter by Abigail Adams

to her husband, future President of the United States, John Adams

I long to hear that you have declared an independancy—and by the way in the new Code of Laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make I desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could. If perticuliar care and attention is not paid to the Laidies we are determined to foment a Rebelion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation.

That your Sex are Naturally Tyrannical is a Truth so thoroughly established as to admit of no dispute, but such of you as wish to be happy willingly give up the harsh title of Master for the more tender and endearing one of Friend. Why then, not put it out of the power of the vicious and the Lawless to use us with cruelty and indignity with impunity. Men of Sense in all Ages abhor those customs which treat us only as the vassals of your Sex.

Feminism is NOT a new concept.

It wasn’t even a new concept two centuries ago.

And yet still we must fight to prove ourselves

As human as mankind.

The only reason Women’s Day exists

is that every other day of the year

…is Men’s Day.

  1. Fight the fight, M. Simple equality shouldn’t be such a fight at all, but so long as it is, fight we shall.

  2. Times have changed and you can keep crying victim if you wish, just do it from the kitchen.

    • You’re a total fuckhead. And I’m not just saying that ’cause you’re my brother. You really are a total fuckhead.

Seriously? This is what you hear? That we’re complaining for no reason?

Across the world 70% of girls and women suffer some form of sexual abuse in their lifetime. In Zimbabwe children as young as 3 years old are gang raped by men seeking a cure for their HIV. Tribal healers claim they can cure themselves from HIV and AIDS if they have sex with a virgin girl. This has led to the rape of newborn infant girls and their infection with HIV. After her rape, the family shuns the victim and blames her for the crime.

Of all the girls and women in your acquaintance, more than one of them has been subjected to a sexual assault. At least one of them has been raped.

At Duke University a study among the male students asking them if they were certain not to be caught would they commit rape. The answer was that 51% of male college students would commit rape if they knew there would be no repercussions.

So what, right? Women aren’t people, we’re just domestic servants. [/sarcasm]

Good to know where you stand on this issue. Kitchen’s —> that way. Help yourself if you’re hungry.
